What can you say about something that’s a timeless classic, that’s not already been said? The Bell 500, as worn by Evel Knievel? The Bell 500 that’s largely unchanged since its arrival in 1954? The only thing I can think to add, is that it’s supremely comfortable whilst having a good close fitting, no doubt due to the amount of shell sizes, five of them. The only thing I can think to add, is that it’s supremely comfortable whilst having a good close fitting, no doubt due to the amount of shell sizes, five of them. Other manufacturers have come close, but if you value your noggin, this is where you’ll splash your cash. Thoroughly recommend for the discerning rider.

Surpassed expectations

This is the first ‘road’ open face helmet I have worn since my early childhood, my more recent lids have been full face shoei race helmets (worn on s1000rr rocket) and an open face hebo trials helmet worn on wee Montesa , so this helmet is my first tentative dip of the toes into the retro/ cafe racer look. Firstly , the quality and finish has seriously surprised me , my benchmark helmet is a £400 shoei race helmet so it is against this that I compare the bell 500 . The helmet finish is impeccable for the money , shell , lining , and paint finish defy its price point. The helmet fit as some say is slightly more round than oval , but this I don’t find uncomfortable, I can wear my Oakley fuel cell sunglasses with the helmet comfortably , and I have just invested in a pair of Ethen cafe racer goggles which complement the helmet in both look and fit. Very pleased! Bring on the warmer days and the reopening of ice cream parlours!
